Professor Daniel Augustine

Professor Dan Augustine is Medical Director of Sports Cardiology UK.
Dan is based in Bath and practices at the Royal United Hospital Bath. Dan qualified in 2002 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Medical School and has undertaken a cardiovascular imaging research fellowship at the University of Oxford, leading to his MD degree. In 2023 he was appointed as Honorary Professor at the University of Bath. Dan is one of the first cardiologists in the UK to have completed a Masters degree in Sports Cardiology (2019), St George's University, London.
Dan is the President of the British Society of Echocardiography. He has expertise in Sports cardiology and general cardiology; exercise prescription & cardiac imaging. Dan is one of the Football Association cardiologists and has worked with a number of sports teams and organisations including Bath rugby, Bristol rugby, Bristol Rovers FC; Bristol City FC, Somerset cricket, Gloucester cricket, GB swimming, GB bobsleigh, GB modern pentathlon, Enlgand women's cricket team and GB athletics.
Dan was one of the authors of the National guidelines on the screening of sports participants. Dan is also the author and editor of several national and international cardiology textbooks. It allows Dan to give a modern and expert opinion on a wide range of cardiological presentations.
Dan is proud that Sports Cardiology UK has developed an excellent network over the years. We work with a team of expert physiologists and cardiologists as well as having strong links with other sports medicine disciplines.

Dr Georgia Spentzou
MBBS, MRCPCH, PgCert (Med Ed), CEPS-P, MSc (Sports Cardiology)
Dr Spentzou is based in Bristol where she leads the paediatric arrhythmia service. After graduation from Athens in 2007, she underwent extensive training in paediatric cardiology in the UK and Australia. She has trained at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. Georgia has over 10 years of experience in echocardiography and in 2018 she was awarded the EACVI (European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging) Certification in echocardiography in congenital heart disease.
Her training was complemented by a fellowship in paediatric electrophysiology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. In 2020, Georgia achieved the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Physician Certification (CEPS-P).
Since 2020, Georgia has been working as a full-time consultant at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, specialising in arrhythmias, inherited cardiac conditions and congenital heart disease. In 2024, she successfully completed an MSc degree in Sports Cardiology at St George’s University, graduating with Distinction.
As a paediatric electrophysiologist with expertise in the management of arrhythmias in the under 18’s, she has also developed extensive experience in treating young athletes with catheter ablation and other specialised treatments, enabling them to continue with their high intensity training.
Georgia can offer a comprehensive assessment of a young athlete presenting with symptoms or for pre-participation screening.
